Since 2020, the Concejo de los Pueblos Originarios has actively uplifting Indigenous voices.

The Concejo

The Concejo de Los Pueblos Originarios is an organization of indigenous people from Latin America living in New York, who are working towards indigenous language and cultural preservation. The Consejo is also an authority for indigenous people by indigenous people, to be able to advocate for the problematic injustices and grievances that exist in their communities. The Concejo was officially named during a December 18th 2020 assembly; in front of Carmen De La Rosa, member of the New York City Council, and Jorge Islas López, Consul General of Mexico in New York. They are working towards creating a network of indigenous language interpreters to give indigenous migrants equal access to legal and medical translations. They host 5 annual events to help preserve the indigenous culture of indigenous migrants and their families in NYC. They are dedicated to protecting the wellbeing of their members and their respective indigenous communities

Meet our President

Saul Rivera is president and founder of the cultural organization Ti Toro Miko in 2017 in New York. He works with a community of indigenous groups committed to preserving of indigenous cultural traditions both in Mexico and New York. He was elected as President of the Concejo de los Pueblos Originarios for his hard work within our community. His role with Ti Toro Miko and the Concejo de los Pueblos Originarios, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting indigenous communities, is one dedicated to establishing relationships with communities that need representation and support in feeling like they have a voice since 2020. He works tirelessly to defend and celebrate the rich heritage of indigenous peoples, fostering cross-border recognition and appreciation.
